Covid-19 Safety Information and Guidance

Buckby Library & Hub is now open, however we are , of course still governed by Government Covid safety guidelines and regulations. Please be assured we have carried out risk assessments and taken great care to provide as safe an environment as we can for both our visitors and volunteers.

Please remember TO BE KIND – Buckby Library & Hub is entirely delivered by volunteers from the communities within which you, and we, all reside. Please kindly remember that if we ask you to do something to protect yourself, other visitors or our volunteers in a certain way it is because we have either been directed to do so by the Government or by West Northamptonshire Council or we feel our own building’s current layout and/or facilities requires it, in order for us to remain open and to keep us all as safe as we can. Thank you.

Face coverings and track and trace requirements

The Government policy for the mandatory wearing of face coverings in public places in England includes public libraries. They are to be worn by all visitors, except for those who have an age, health or disability reason for not wearing a face covering.

It is also mandatory for library staff [including our volunteers] to ask visitors to leave their details when entering library buildings for computer use, browsing or activities. Visitors who have downloaded the NHS Test and Trace app can scan our venue QR code provided on display at our library entrance.

Book Quarantine Policy

All books returned to the Library, whether in person or via the Library letterbox will be quarantined for 72 hours [3days] before being returned to our bookshelves for borrowing.

Computer Use, Printing and Photocopying

Our public computers have been safely distanced to allow two individuals to use them simultaneously. Our volunteers will sanitise each keyboard and mouse after every use. Printing and photocopying is available, please make us of the sanitiser nearby to keep all equipment safe for others.

If you have your own device and wish to only use our WiFi, you may be seated in our “refreshments” area subject to safe distancing guidelines. The seating and table will be sanitised once vacated.

Public Health England Guidance/Advice for Libraries

During the COVID-19 emergency every person, including librarians and volunteers, will be required to wash their hands/sanitise on entry and frequently during their shifts to protect themselves from any contaminated surfaces. The risk from books covered in a plastic cover handled by someone who is a possible COVID-19 case is negligible after 72 hours. The risk from books with a cardboard/paper cover is negligible after 24 hours.
